The manifesto

From its own ashes, the column rises.

The word carried on our standard is a verb in the first person, in the present tense. Not “I was reborn,” nor “I will be reborn”: renasço — “I rise again” — now, and once more tomorrow.

The Lodge

A workshop of men who build themselves.

We meet on Mondays, at the Temple on Rua Palatinado, a house the Fênix shares with sister Lodges of the Orient of Rio de Janeiro. Three pillars sustain what we do.

  1. 01

    Study

Knowledge as a tool for self-improvement. No newly initiated Brother crosses the first degree without direction.

  2. 02

    Ritual

The Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, practiced with the rigor tradition demands and the Lodge has taken as its vision.

  3. 03

    Philanthropy

The fraternal love that leaves the Temple. Building a more just, equal, and happy society.

Our history

A history that keeps going.

Seventeen Brothers, three borrowed houses, and sixteen years of work before a Temple of its own. The Fênix is made of dates, places, and people — and the archive is open.

  1. 1973

    Founding

Unable to revive Loja Mascarenhas de Moraes, seventeen Brothers raise a new Lodge, on July 30.

  2. 1986

    A ground of its own

The Lodge acquires the land at Rua Palatinado, 380, in Cascadura.

  3. 1990

    Cornerstone

On July 29, the Brethren gather around the laid cornerstone.

  4. 2006

    Consecration of the Temple

On July 30, the Lodge begins its labors at the Palácio Maçônico de Cascadura.

  • About thirty Brothers lined up in a semicircle on the lawn, in dark suits, collars, and Masonic aprons. In the foreground, the open ground with the cornerstone already laid.

  • An open-air Masonic procession. In front, a Brother wearing white gloves carries the Lodge's blue standard, with the word RENASÇO in gold and the white Phoenix over the flames. Beside him, Brothers in dark suits, collars, and aprons walk across the lawn.

  • Brothers Montese and Amorim, in light shirts, stand on the slab, in front of a still unplastered brick wall. Behind them, a concrete portico, the neighborhood's rooftops, and the hills in the distance.

  • Two-story facade under construction, still unpainted. Two cylindrical columns support the upper floor's curved balcony, and the windows have full arches with blue frames.

Study

No path should be walked without direction.

The Aracaty José de Medeiros Study Circle bears the name of a Brother of this House and represents the Fênix's commitment to formation, study, and the transmission of knowledge between generations.

It is where the Lodge reads, listens, and discusses — and where no newly initiated Brother crosses the first degree without direction. The constant investigation of truth is, after all, one of the ends the Order sets for itself.

The Lodge's full history is told in the book A Fênix e o Aprendiz (“The Fênix and the Apprentice”), written by the Brethren of this House and given to every initiated Brother.

Ritual

The Rite does not explain itself from the outside.

We practice the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite. Originating in Scotland, born in France, and organized in the United States in 1801, it is today the most widespread of the Masonic rites — and the one the Fênix has worked since its founding.

It is the Lodge's declared vision to become a reference in Scottish Rite ritual practice across Rio de Janeiro Freemasonry. What that demands is known to whoever practices it: rigor, study, and constancy. The rest belongs to those who were there.

Philanthropy

What leaves the Temple.

The Lodge's mission is to promote the personal and social betterment of its members and to contribute to building a more just, equal, and happy society. Outside the Temple, that becomes support for those in need.

We currently support

Casa de Apoio à Criança com Câncer São Vicente de Paulo

Provides free care to children and adolescents aged zero to eighteen with cancer and other serious blood diseases, coming from distant municipalities and other states for treatment at Rio de Janeiro's specialized hospitals. It offers support, nutrition, social and educational assistance, medication, and cultural activities.
